Momentary Electrical Problem

What Causes A Momentary Electrical Problem

Most 'momentary' electrical problems, hence RCD trips, are associated with turning an electrical appliance on.

The trips are due to an effect called 'in-rush'.

In-rush is a momentary increase in electrical current that happens because the electrical resistance of the circuit has not reached its 'steady state' level (warmed up).

Less resistance, with the same voltage, means more current, i.e. more earth leakage current. More earth leakage current causes the RCD to trip.

Most electrical appliances are susceptible to 'in-rush', a surge current. The detailed internal design of the appliance defines the in-rush current level.
