The fixed electrical installation is the electrical wiring, electrical machinery and electrical components that are fixed to a building.

 

 

 

Fixed Electrical Installation – Further Explanation

 

The fixed electrical installation:

 

· Is physically attached to a building – ‘comes with the building’.

 

· Would stay where it is if the business moved.

 

· Is not subject to PAT Testing (Portable Appliance Testing) but is subject to electrical test and inspection.

 

· Includes, for instance, RCD domestic units, fuse boxes, large electrical generators, ceiling lights, power sockets, large items of machinery and wall switches.

 

· Does not include, for instance, PCs, kettles, printers, toasters and battery chargers.

· Portable appliances.
