Commercial Premises Electricity Bills – Facts And Figures
All figures are approximate – individual usage and appliance power consumptions vary. The figures are representative to give individuals an idea of costs. Cost of electricity assumed to be 10 pence (UK) per Kilo Watt Hour.
· CFL (compact fluorescent lamps) light bulbs use about half the electricity of normal light bulbs.
· Older type T12 fluorescent tubes (38mm / 1.5" diameter) use about 8% more electricity than newer T8s (26mm / 1" diameter) fluorescent tubes.
· 1 in 5 small businesses spend more than 10% of their annual turnover on energy bills.
· Small businesses spend about £2000 a year heating a small office or shop.
· Heating costs rise by about 8% for every degree centigrade increase in thermostat setting – this can cost a small office or shop £160 per year.
· Appliances that create or remove heat use the most electricity.
· Laptop PCs use about 80% less electricity than a ‘stack’ PC.
· Leaving the lights on in an office overnight uses about the same amount of electricity as boiling water for 1000 cups of tea.
· An energy efficient light bulb costs about £7 per year less to run than a standard 100W bulb.
· Turning a PC and monitor off for 12 hours per day, say overnight, will save about £100 per year in electricity charges.
· A portable fan costs about 1 pence (UK) per hour.
· A medium size air conditioner cost about 10 pence (UK) per hour.
