A central heating pilot light is a small flame that lights the main boiler flame.

 

What Can Go Wrong With A Pilot Light

Pilot Light Keeps Going Out

  • Deposit build up in the pilot light – clean the pilot light.
  • Thermocouple unserviceable.
    • The thermocouple removes the gas supply to the pilot light when the pilot light goes out.
    • The thermocouple may be removing the gas supply to the pilot light when it shouldn’t remove the gas supply to the pilot light.
  • Air seal broken – a draught is blowing the pilot light out.

Pilot Light Goes Out After A Short Time

  • Thermocouple broken.
    • Thermocouple is removing the gas supply to the pilot light.

Pilot Light Yellow And Weak

Pilot light should be blue.

  • Deposit build up in the pilot light – clean the pilot light.
  • Adjust the flame height – a small screw on the pilot light.
